Official Rangers partner shocked at ‘absolute madness’ amid Aberdeen ticket sales discovery

Aberdeen’s decision to put tickets for the Viaplay Cup final against Rangers on general sale has been branded “absolute madness” by Heart & Hand Podcast.

The official Light Blues partner reacted to the discovery on Twitter (14 November) to suggest the situation is bound to mean Gers fans will have acquired tickets in the Dons end.

The news comes after a disputed allocation that saw the SFPL provide Rangers 25,000 and Aberdeen 19,500 based on historic sales and tickets sold for the semi finals.

Heart & Hand wrote: “Hold on – Aberdeen put LCF tickets up on General Sale to anybody, allowing people to buy FOUR and they don’t think there will be Rangers fans in their end?!”

After a supporter suggested they had confirmed that situation H&H replied: “Madness, absolute madness.”

Short sighted?

If it is indeed the case that Rangers fans might have boosted Aberdeen ticket sales then it does seem to be asking for trouble in a situation that has already seen fans of both sides left unhappy ahead of the 17 December final.

Dons CEO Alan Burrows has already taken to Twitter (14 November) to admit an “error” on the club’s part for moving straight into a general sale after the initial offering to points holders.

But he also cites the fact that the first load of 17,000 tickets have been sold out in a “few short days” as reason to suggest it should have been a 50-50 split.

If a number of those have been snapped up by Rangers supporters, given the Light Blues’ allocation was still well short of the number of season ticket holders, it would clearly undercut that claim.

The proof will presumably arrive on the day unless there are further developments ahead of the game but it sounds like the controversy around the situation will continue up until then.

As many Gers fans as possible will clearly want to be at Hampden Park as Philippe Clement looks to mark his revival of Michael Beale’s collapsing season with an early trophy win, and the first in over a year.
