John Bennett demands success with new Rangers hire after £100m+ reveal
John Bennett has demanded “consistent success” for Rangers in the transfer market, after it was revealed costs at Ibrox had reached £108million, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reported in its print edition (14 November, back page and page 46) that the Ibrox club hope to appoint a new sporting director before the end of the month, with Bennett hoping to step up their player trading model.
This news comes following the latest financial accounts from Rangers, which showed a loss of £4.1 million, as costs at Ibrox increased from £97million to £108million, following a summer of heavy recruitment under Michael Beale.

Beale was left alone to oversee the summer transfer window following Ross Wilson’s departure in April, but Bennett is keen for the Light Blues to be consistently successful when buying and selling players in the future, with the appointment of a new sporting director part of that plan.
Successful
To some degree, buying any player represents a certain risk as it is never guaranteed that a new addition to the squad will hit the ground running and thrive with a new club. But Rangers certainly need to change their strategy after a scattergun approach this summer.
Beale took risk after risk during the summer transfer window and so far very few of them have proven to be excellent pieces of business. Jack Butland and Danilo have been bright in their early stages, but the likes of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers remain off of the pace in Glasgow.

Costs may have risen by £11 million, but there is very little to suggest that this current squad is £11 million better than it was when the Gers’ last accounts were revealed. A new sporting director will hopefully provide a guarantee of success during future transfer windows.
Rangers cannot afford to spend this amount of money and not taste any success. They’ve finally got the right man in the dugout with the appointment of Philippe Clement and now they must ensure they have the right people working above him to ensure that Rangers can be a successful side in the coming years.
