James Bisgrove confirms timeline as new Rangers appointment now close

James Bisgrove confirmed to supporters during a fans forum that Rangers are in the final stages of appointing a new director of football, as shared by the Glasgow Times.

The club CEO moved to reassure fans after Ross Wilson left Ibrox to join Nottingham Forest in April, with his position left open ever since, with a two-week timeframe now given.

It is reported that the club feel ready to make an announcement once domestic football returns after the international break that has just begun.

A new direction

With the appointment of a director of football, Rangers will instil a clear plan and direction at Ibrox which the entire club can rally and grow behind. Having an established backroom team and direction to move in will set them up for long-term success.

There had already been major changes on the cards for the backroom and scouting department at Ibrox, with a more data-led approach to scouting being implemented to bring Rangers in line with Europe’s top clubs [Daily Record, 8 September]. The appointment of a director of football is the latest step in that overhaul.

The appointment of Philippe Clement has signified a new direction for the club both on and off the field, as ambitious plans are being put in place to ensure long-term success rather than the short-term focus of trying to win silverware and keep pace with Celtic.

A change in focus was necessary after a seemingly disastrous transfer window under the guidance of Michael Beale, who failed to get the best out of his nine new arrivals before he was sacked.

In other Rangers news, one player has earned a new label after a dramatic turnaround under Clement.
