Chris Jack slams Rangers as £100m+ reveal emerges
Chris Jack has slammed Rangers for making too many “costly mistakes” in the transfer window after the Ibrox club published their financial accounts.
The Gers published their accounts on Monday (13 November) with it being revealed that costs at Ibrox have climbed from £97million to £108million after a summer of heavy investment under the management of Michael Beale.
But Jack doesn’t believe that the Light Blues have got “value for money” throughout the last few transfer windows, with a lack of players brought to Glasgow that will fit the trading model Rangers have thrived from in the past.

Writing for the Rangers Review (14 November) he said: “Once again, the questions centre on not what Rangers spend but how they spend it and the value for money has not been there as costly mistakes have piled up.
“One of the issues that Rangers now face is the lack of sellable assets within the squad. The likes of Jack Butland and Nicolas Raskin could attract decent fees but there is no conveyor belt of players from a buy low, sell high model.
“That is one that Celtic continues to reap the rewards of and Rangers must cash in every two seasons out of three to be successful and sustainable.
“Rangers have got their recruitment badly wrong in recent windows and have paid the price in terms of medals. Until it is rectified, they will feel the cost of it in black and white as well.”
Needs a reset
Beale’s plan over the summer transfer window was to add genuine quality to his side in the attempt to catch Celtic and be ready for the Champions League. So far that hasn’t worked out as hoped with a lot of the new additions struggling in Scotland and Beale already receiving his marching orders.
The issue wasn’t a lack of investment under the management of Beale, but instead how it was invested, with none of the players brought to Ibrox this summer likely to be sold for a profit in a year or two’s time as was the case with Calvin Bassey.

With a new sporting director on the way, Rangers must ensure that the new person in charge works alongside Clement to not only add quality to his side but also feed that “buy low, sell high model” that helps fund the Gers.
The costly mistakes made this summer haven’t proven to be too damaging to the latest set of club accounts, but the Light Blues can’t afford to make these mistakes once again. Hopefully, Clement and the new sporting director can undo the missteps made by Beale over the next few transfer windows.
