Todd Cantwell rages on social media over unseen incident during Rangers clash with Livingston
Todd Cantwell has been left in a rage on social media over an unseen incident between him and James Penrice during the clash between Rangers and Livingston.
The Light Blues picked up all three points at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Sunday (12 November) thanks to goals from Cyriel Dessers and James Tavernier, but the game was dominated by some controversial refereeing and VAR decisions.
But Cantwell was left furious after he was booked moments after entering the field of play having fouled and then pushed Penrice, with the Rangers midfielder sharing images of what appears to be the Livingston man kicking out at the 25-year-old.

Sharing screenshots on his Instagram story (12 November) Cantwell wrote: “Didn’t get checked. For context, I get booked here not even looked at.
“If I didn’t pull my leg away we wouldn’t be most worried about it not being looked at.”
Does kick out
At the time it appeared as though Cantwell had just lost his head in the heat of the game as Rangers supporters have come to expect from their midfielder, with several pundits and journalists labelling the 25-year-old as “petulant.”
But with the angles shown by the Rangers star on his Instagram story, it does appear clear that Penrice does make a deliberate effort to kick out at Cantwell and even makes quite heavy contact with the midfielder’s left shin in quite an ugly display.
A calmer player would have not been riled up by the kick however and if Cantwell wants to reach a new level, he needs to handle his emotions better as he picked up a completely unnecessary booking because of his reaction to the incident.

But in an afternoon dominated by poor refereeing and VAR decisions, this is yet another incident that the officials failed to notice during Sunday’s clash. If Cantwell can find these angles of the incident, there is no reason why the VAR officials shouldn’t be able to.
For the safety of players, action should be taken against Penrice here, even if retrospectively as he could have caused Cantwell some serious harm and has genuinely endangered his opponent. It seems bizarre that the Rangers man was the one booked in this incident.
