Ross McCausland ready for more Rangers game time after Cyriel Dessers comments

Rangers wonder Ross McCausland is ready for more game time at Ibrox after his recent displays led to teammate Cyriel Dessers gushing over the winger.

The 20-year-old started in the 2-0 win over Livingston on 12 August and turned in an eye-catching display, winning a penalty for his side and earning praise from his teammate who suggested he will be an important player at Ibrox.

McCausland also found the back of the net in the game before it was chalked off by VAR in a decision official Rangers partner Heart & Hand described as “bizarre”.

Dessers was speaking to The Scotsman after the game on 12 November and he shared: “We see his quality in training every day and I think everyone has seen in it the last games.

“We all hoped for him to score his first goal but with his qualities, I’m sure the goals will come very soon for him. I think he has the qualities to be a very, very good player for Rangers.

“Of course, he has to grow and develop but I think he has it in him. Also, he has a good mentality and he’s pretty calm about everything that is happening because it’s not easy as a young player to come into a team like Rangers.

“He has a good head so I think he is going to grow and become important for us.”

The winger’s last two performances in the blue shirt have been the ones to catch the eye. In the Europa League victory against Sparta Prague, he recorded a 100% dribble rate, got two shots off, and looked an all-around threat with his pace and confidence to take people on down the wing. In Sunday’s clash with Livingston, that impressive cameo was repeated from the start as McCausland attempted three dribbles, drew a foul which earned a crucial penalty, had two shots, won 50% of his duels and arguably should have seen his goal count.

These displays have proved he should be afforded more game time at Ibrox, particularly with the lack of depth in the wide areas at Ibrox. Dessers’ high praise of his teammate and prediction of a long-term future will only be lived up to with consistent game time.

This display and praise have come following a Fabrizio Romano report [11 November] that suggested Premier League teams are tracking his progress, and an improved role at Rangers could convince him to continue his spell in Scotland.

In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd has shared a “brutally honest” verdict following the game.
