Kris Boyd makes admission live on Sky Sports amid Rangers development: ‘Couldn’t get any worse’
The situation at Rangers “couldn’t get any worse” when Philippe Clement came in to replace Michael Beale as manager at Ibrox.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event on Sunday (11:37am), the pundit said the Gers are “definitely getting better” since the Belgian took over at the club.
After the new Light Blues boss has claimed victories in six out of his first seven matches, Boyd added they have a chance to secure European football after Christmas with a victory over Aris Limassol on 30 November, something he believes would be “huge”.

“They are definitely getting better,” said Boyd. “But let’s be realistic, from where they were, it couldn’t get any worse. I think the European performances for a period of time now for Rangers all be it at the Champions League level they struggled.
“But for Rangers and Celtic in terms of European football, that’s where they are. It’s not to say they can’t go to the Champions League and be part of it but to ask them to go and get to the last 16, it’s very difficult now. In terms of the Europa League, there is a chance of progressing through the group and doing well.
“They’ve got another opportunity with their home game if they beat Aris Limassol, they’ve got European football after Christmas as well, which would be huge. There is no doubt under Philippe Clement Rangers are improving, but it wouldn’t be hard because it was so bad.”
Promising
It was pretty clear that Rangers weren’t progressing under Beale and the right decision was made to sack him just over a month ago.
It’s been a promising start for Clement as he’s settled things down and started to get a tune out of some of the players that were struggling under the previous manager.
While it will still be a difficult task to overhaul the eight-point gap that Celtic have built up in the SPFL, they are in a much better position to achieve that now.

A comfortable 2-0 victory over Livingston on Sunday ensured that the Belgian has undergone a perfect start domestically, having won all six of his fixtures.
He will now be looking to use the international break to keep working with the Light Blues players as they look to continue their resurgence in a couple of weeks’ time.
In other Rangers news, an “alarming” admission by one Gers star has gone under the radar at Ibrox.
