James Tavernier sends message to Ross McCausland after what he did in Rangers 2-0 win v Livingston

James Tavernier has sent a message to Ross McCausland after Rangers defeated Livingston 2-0 in the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers won the clash on Sunday (12 November) thanks to goals from Tavernier and summer signing Cyriel Dessers.

The victory leaves Philippe Clement’s men sitting second in the league table, eight points behind leaders Celtic but with a game in hand.

Young attacker McCausland started the match, playing 78 minutes before being replaced by fellow attacker Todd Cantwell.

Congratulating the attacker, who made his first Gers start and clinched the Man of the Match award, Tavernier wrote on Instagram: “Congratulations on your first start and MOTM performance.”

McCausland really was electric from the very first whistle against Livingston, with manager Clement having no option but to hand the youngster his first start given his recent performances from the bench.

It could have been much sweeter for the 20-year-old from Northern Ireland, who netted a superb goal only for it to be ruled out by VAR due to a foul by his teammate Abdallah Sima.

The youngster had further bad luck in the penalty spot after he won a spot-kick for his side after drawing a foul from Livingston goalkeeper Shamal George.

But his fine footwork did not result in a goal, with defender Tavernier sending his penalty wide of the right-hand post.

Those feats and others from McCausland earned him a Man of the Match award on his first start, much to the delight of the player, his boss and Gers fans, with all parties keen for similar displays in the months to come.

In other Rangers news, one Celtic player is in a “race against time” to play against the Gers after a recent “double whammy.”
