Rangers must not risk keeping Kemar Roofe, January sale must be priority

Rangers cannot afford to wait on Kemar Roofe to prove his fitness record and must look to cut ties with him in the January transfer window.

The 30-year-old may be able to fetch a decent fee from clubs in the English Championship and it’s time that the club considers parting ways with him.

He might be in better shape this season, having already played six league games but there’s always a worry of a recurrence with him.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Dr Rajpal Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

Based on the manager’s comments and injury history, Roofe has been dealing with repeat issues of the same injuries and the club have been trying to get him on the pitch to play quickly rather than take the longer course of determining the root causes.

Players can get into a vicious cycle of injury-reinjury, which is what he is in and he could have a similar lengthy setback in the future, especially with muscular injuries, and that often requires a much deeper look at the root causes.

This clearly shows that another injury could once again see him miss weeks and maybe even months and that has been the case over the last few seasons already for him.

A pure wide player and a centre-back may be what Clement needs in January and selling Roofe may even raise funds to sign one of those.

Since the 2021/22 season, Roofe has made just 13 league starts – four of them coming this term – so his availability has been the major issue and the time to part ways may have arrived.

Whether or not Gers pull the trigger remains to be seen, but it seems to be in their best interests to do so.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has claimed that a Gers first-team player will jump at the chance to leave Ibrox as a transfer story has emerged recently.
