BBC pundit baffled by what ‘petulant’ Christian Montano did to Rangers fans in Livingston loss live on Sportsound

Lee McCulloch couldn’t understand what Christian Montano “was thinking” as he tried to get a “bite” out of the Rangers fans after he was taken off during his 2-0 defeat.

The BBC pundit said live on the Sportsound coverage of the game on 12 November the Colombian was “petulant” as a dramatic game before the break descended into a scrappy and uneventful second 45.

Montano was taken off in the 83rd minute by David Martindale while on a booking, with his side already two down and ultimately unable to threaten a comeback.

McCulloch said (1.48pm): “It’s getting a little bit petulant. I’m just watching Montano walk round the pitch, all the way round the Rangers fans, clapping the Rangers fans and trying to get a bite out of them.

“I don’t know what he’s thinking but it’s that word again, petulant.”

Game over

It was a frustrating game all round in West Lothian as Rangers dominated throughout but were unable to extend the scoreline on the artificial surface.

Cyriel Dessers scuffed home the opener and James Tavernier added the second from the spot late on, but the Nigerian international wasn’t the sharpest otherwise and the captain had already put a first penalty wide.

VAR ruled out two more Light Blues strikes in the first half, one harshly and one probably rightly, while the home side struggled to get anything going, much to the displeasure of Martindale.

Rangers

With so little action occurring after the break the players on both sides became increasingly caught up in needless minor scraps, but it was a satisfactory outcome for Philippe Clement in the end.

The Livi players couldn’t get much traction on the pitch so Montano looks like he tried to get it out of the supporters.

Ultimately the Gers came away with another win to maintain Clement’s 100% league record and can be satisfied to maintain their momentum heading into the international break.

In other Rangers news, Frank McAvennie raged at a “disgrace” as the Light Blues dominated Livi.
