Czech media react to Rangers win v Sparta Prague in Europa League

Czech media have destroyed a “dramatically weak” effort from Sparta Prague in the Europa League as Rangers won 2-1 at Ibrox on Thursday 9 November.

iSport were not impressed with the first-half showing in particular as goals from Danilo and Todd Cantwell saw the Bears race into a solid lead.

Sparta Prague did pull one goal back but it was not enough in the end, with a win against Aris Limassol next time out enough to secure safe passage through the groups for Rangers.

Writing in his review of the match, Jiri Fejgl was far from impressed with what was on show from the travelling side in Glasgow last night.

“The beginning severely trampled on Sparta’s chances to break into the spring knockout phase of the Europa League,” he wrote.

“At the Rangers stadium, the Czech champion was dramatically weak especially in the first half, which is why they lost 1:2. The symbol of failure is undoubtedly young quarterback James Gomez.

“The momentum after the change of sides did not lead to a point.”

Rangers

Delight.

Philippe Clement will be delighted with the three points and effort of his team, but it was clear that the first half was much better than the second 45 minutes.

Sparta Prague have been destroyed for their efforts, but it was the pressure put on them by Rangers from the very first whistle that simply caused them to crumble.

James Gomez was the perfect example as he was destroyed for both goals by Cantwell and Danilo, who both had one of those days where almost everything went perfectly.

You can see by the performance levels that Rangers are getting very close to the final picture under Clement, and that is very scary for opposing sides both in Europe and domestically.

The Czech media did not really address Rangers, but they will be happy just quietly going about their business and walking through anyone that stands in their way right now.
