BBC pundit delivers Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers exit verdict

Steven Thompson does not believe that Cyriel Dessers will be at Rangers for the long term despite only signing a few months ago.

In 2023, Gers secured the services of the Nigeria international for a £4.5million fee, per the Scotsman.

However, he’s struggled to make the starting berth his own at Ibrox and has struggled for game time.

Thompson said on BBC Sportsound on 9 November, via Football Scotland, “Danilo is doing well but when he’s not there is (Kemar) Roofe fit enough? Dessers I don’t think will be the long-term.

“Those are the positions I’d look at.”

Needs to step up his game

Dessers may not have been the most expensive signing over the summer but he was still brought in for decent money.

Philippe Clement wasn’t the one to sign the 28-year-old but is now tasked to get the best out of him and at least in his first few weeks, Danilo seems to be the go to man.

If Dessers wants to stay at Rangers, he’s going to have to prove to everyone why he deserves to and thus far, he is not doing that.

Clement has the experience and track record but whether not he can improve the striker and give him the confidence he needs, remains to be seen.

One thing is certain, he’s got to improve a great deal and Thompson is 100 per cent right about that and he does not look like a long-term option as of now.

He’s in his late 20s anyway so perhaps that was always the plan but they surely would not want to consider replacements this quickly.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has claimed that a Gers first-team player will jump at the chance to leave Ibrox as a transfer story has emerged recently.
