BBC pundit destroys Sparta Prague player after incident v Rangers
Steven Thompson has destroyed Sparta Prague defender James Gomez after he gave the ball away sloppily which led directly to Rangers’ opening goal in the 2-1 win.
Gomez was tackled by the Brazilian striker on the edge of the box before he ran through on goal and slotted the ball around the goalkeeper into the bottom corner.
Thompson claimed the defender’s decision-making on the ball was “inexplicable”, and while he complimented the composure of Danilo, he could not help but criticise the defender.

Thompson was speaking live on BBC Sportsound [20:15] when he slammed the Sparta defender: “It’s a really composed finish, but what is Gomez doing?
“He’s now down injured and I think it is just the old ‘faking an injury after having a shocker’ routine.
“He’s not under pressure if he keeps moving forward. For some inexplicable reason, he turns back not realising that Danilo is putting him under pressure from behind.
“It’s horrendous.”
Danilo proving he is the man
With his display against Sparta Prague, Danilo has now proved to his new boss that he will be the man to lead the line in this Rangers side and has surely secured his place in the long-term plans of Philippe Clement.
With the disappointing form of Cyriel Dessers since his arrival in the summer, injuries have been the main issue keeping Danilo out of the side, but his return to fitness has allowed him to stake a claim for more regular minutes at Ibrox.

His pressing was relentless across the Prague back line, forcing the error for the goal and putting the defenders under with no time to get comfortable in the game, which allowed Clement’s side to push further forward and gamble on the mistake which became inevitable.
On another day, Danilo may even have had more goals, but his all-round play was what shone today aside from his finishing, and he has proved he will be the man to lead to line at Ibrox for some time to come.
