Ally McCoist blown away by what ‘wonderful’ Rangers star Danilo did against Sparta Prague
Ally McCoist was blown away by Danilo as his “wonderful” goal gave Rangers the lead in their Europa League clash with Sparta Prague.
Philippe Clement’s side headed into the break 2-0 up at Ibrox to continue their impressive start under the Belgian, with Danilo opening the scoring after 12 minutes before Todd Cantwell doubled their advantage less than 10 minutes later.
It was the Brazilian who stole most of the plaudits as he impressed in his first Europa League start for the Light Blues, with McCoist heaping praise on the striker for his “excellent” work to fashion the early opportunity.

Speaking live on TNT Sport (9 November, 20:12) he said: “You can actually see it, he just moves his body to the right-hand side to open up the left foot finish and it’s wonderful.
“Really poor defending of course it is. Watch, just moves across there, opens the body up, left foot, side foot finish. Top class. He moves left to right to allow the space for the left foot finish.
“Excellent, well done.”
Something special
Rangers and Michael Beale spent a lot of money to find their Alfredo Morelos replacement this summer and while Beale is no longer in post at Ibrox, it is safe to say that Clement has found a more than able number nine to lead his attacking line.
Danilo has been in inspired form in recent weeks and is seemingly going from strength to strength under the management of the Belgian and his goal in the first half on Thursday was the sort of composed finish that supporters have been crying out for.

Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers have both been guilty of wasting valuable chances in the early stages of their Ibox careers and while Danilo hasn’t been faultless himself, it is hard to imagine either of his other striking counterparts taking that chance.
The Brazilian’s work rate to win back the ball was one thing, but the calmness to then slot into the net as if there was no keeper between the posts was nothing short of exceptional. McCoist knows a thing or two about scoring for Rangers, so to be praised by him says it all.
Keeping Danilo fit and firing could not only be crucial for the remainder of this clash but also for Rangers’ hopes domestically and in Europe throughout the remainder of the campaign.
