Ally McCoist shares ‘bottom line’ Rangers verdict live on talkSPORT after Atletico Madrid 6-0 v Celtic
Rangers and Celtic are “Europa League teams,” according to Gers legend Ally McCoist, speaking live on talkSPORT.
The verdict comes after Celtic lost 6-0 to La Liga side Atletico Madrid in the Champions League group stages on Tuesday (7 November).
The Bhoys sit bottom of their group after four matches, with Rangers sitting third in their Europa League group after three games.

“The bottom line is, whether we like it or not, we’re Europa League teams,” McCoist said live on talkSPORT. “That’s where we are at this moment in time. We need the finances of the Champions League. We’ve got to aspire to the Champions League.
“The Dutch teams for example get four or five times more money than Rangers and Celtic believe it or not. We actually can’t compare ourselves to the likes of Feyenoord and PSV, because they get a lot more money.”

Tough times
Celtic and Rangers have certainly found it difficult to compete with Europe’s elite clubs in recent years. The former have given it their all in the Champions League in recent times, but they seemingly always come up short.
But they can hardly take the blame this time around after being pitted in a very tricky Group E alongside Atletico, Feyenoord and Lazio.
Moreover, Brendan Rodgers’s side had to compete with Atletico with 10 men for the majority of their latest clash after Daizen Maeda’s early red card.
Rangers meanwhile have found a bit more success in the next competition down, with Philippe Clement’s men in with a good chance of securing a place in the knockout stages.
They may sit in third place, but their four points put them level with Sparta Prague in second and just two behind leaders Real Betis, who the Gers defeated 1-0 at Ibrox back in September.
In other Rangers news, one Gers loanee was “visibly gutted” after a “major moment to forget” for his temporary club.
