Sunderland join Rangers in hunt to sign ‘rising star’ Daniel Adjei after Ibrox transfer experts sent on mission
Rangers have been joined by Sunderland and Middlesbrough in their pursuit of Hammarby defender Nathaniel Adjei, whom they want to bring to the club in January, according to The Sun.
The newspaper shared via their website on 6 November that all three clubs intend on bringing the Ghanaian in on loan in the January transfer window to strengthen their ambitions for the season.
Rangers reportedly sent scouts to track Adjei last month, but his performances have alerted English clubs to his talent and the Scottish giants could now face some stern competition.
Rangers should move first
If the Ibrox club are the first to make a move for Adjei, it seems likely they could persuade him away from the allure of English football, using their European place and the size of the club to attract him to Scotland to play under Philippe Clement.
The Ghanaian defender has made 20 league appearances from a possible 29 so far this season, as well as in two Conference League qualifiers, and has made a noticeable difference when he is in the side, with Hammarby having lost just three games with him at the back.
Rangers have issues with squad depth, particularly in defence, and his ability to move over to right-back when required will add an extra dimension to their bench and possibly step into the first team when required.
A move to Ibrox to play in the Europa League and challenge for silverware could prove the most appealing option of the ones on the table, with a move to the English championship not carrying the same prestige, although the script could be flipped if either side achieves promotion to the Premier League.
