Philippe Clement gives Scott Wright chance at Rangers before January transfer window after exit talk

Scott Wright has been presented with a chance to stake a first-team place at Rangers under Philippe Clement ahead of the January transfer window, according to Mark Wilson.

Writing for the Scottish Daily Mail print edition [7 November, page 73], Wilson outlined how the winger has started to turn around his Ibrox career after rejecting a move abroad in the summer.

Wright has played in all five games since Clement replaced Michael Beale as manager, starting two of those, but a move away in January is not entirely off the cards.

Wright

Wilson said: “The winger was free to leave Ibrox this summer but turned down a potential move to Turkey to fight for his place.

“While Wright eventually got some game time under Beale, there has been far more use of his talents since Clement took charge.

“The ex-Aberdeen man has featured in all five games and was influential as a second-half substitute on Sunday, scoring the second goal.

“Beale’s odd dismissal of wide player options has presented Wright with a chance to stake a claim before the January transfer window arrives.”

Turnaround

Wright may have remained in Glasgow after the summer transfer window closed, but his Rangers career looked as good as over after his red card in the home defeat to Aberdeen at the end of September.

All of a sudden, though, the 26-year-old is back in favour thanks to the appointment of Clement, who made clear that it was a clean slate for every player upon his arrival.

Helped by a lack of options out wide, Wright has taken full advantage of his opportunity, having scored a key goal for the Gers in their 3-1 win over Hearts at the weekend.

Rangers

Clement may well want to bring in a right-sided attacker in the January window, but Wright has a couple of months before then to possibly delay that decision.

Wright is not alone in reviving his Rangers career over the past month, but this is perhaps the most surprising turnaround of the lot.
