Rangers: Journalist gives ‘definitely’ verdict on possible first Philippe Clement signing at Ibrox
Philippe Clement will “definitely” be looking to sign a right-sided winger when the transfer window opens, according to journalist Joshua Barrie.
Clement has made a brilliant start to life at Ibrox since replacing Michael Beale, having won four and drawn one of his opening five matches.
Many players have made a fresh start under Clement, including winger Scott Wright, who scored in Sunday’s (5 November) 3-1 win over Hearts.
However, despite already having some options out wide, Barrie believes that is an area the Gers could strengthen in January.
Speaking on the Rangers Review podcast [6 November, 11m 55s], Barrie said: “I definitely think that, although Clement says he’s happy to work with the players he’s got, and I don’t think he’ll be as hands-on from a recruitment focus, I expect he’ll be looking at that squad thinking I need players, especially in the right-sided position.”
Options
Clement has favoured a 4-2-3-1 formation since taking charge of Rangers and has used various players on the right of attacking midfield.
Todd Cantwell had a run-out there in the Scottish League Cup semi-final with Hearts, but he was replaced at half-time by Wright.
Sam Lammers has also been used in that position, while Rabbi Matondo can also play there and will soon be back from injury.

Clement has options for now, then, but the wide areas do appear to be an area that needs improving should the right options become available.
Things can change quickly, though, as proved by Danilo’s turnaround in form that has quietened concerns over the centre-forward position.
For now, whether it is Wright, Lammers, Cantwell or anyone else, Rangers have good enough options to keep this momentum going.
Then, once the window opens in January, Clement will be hoping to have some financial backing to make his first signing.
