Hugh Keevins laughs at ‘Xenophobic’ fan attitudes in new Rangers player verdict

Hugh Keevins has insisted that the Rangers’ push for the title is no longer being pushed along by expensive summer misfit transfers.

Since Philippe Clement has taken over from Michael Beale they have won all three of their Scottish Premiership matches, with the likes of Danilo shining.

Keevins admitted the “Xenophobic” attitude of some fans towards foreign signings simply makes him laugh at times, especially after the big win at Dundee.

Writing in his latest column for the Daily Record on Sunday 05 November, Keevins shared his verdict on the snobbery from fans up and down the country.

“Rangers’ tilt at the title is no longer being contested by an assortment of multi-million-pound misfits,” he wrote.

“I’ve always laughed at the xenophobic attitude of the fans in this country who look at a foreign player when he arrives here from somewhere more exotic and question his credentials with a sneering remark.

“Aye but can he do it on a wet midweek night in Dundee? is the challenge. Clement’s side provided an emphatically positive answer to that one while scoring five goals at Dens Park in midweek.”

Challengers?

Clement deserves a lot of credit for the way he has turned the Rangers’ form around since he took over a side that looked lost under Beale.

They currently trail unbeaten Celtic in the Scottish Premiership by eight points. However, if the Hoops slip up and the Gers continue their great form under their new manager, then they have a great chance of causing an upset in the race.

It was a break from league action over the weekend though as Rangers travelled to Hampden Park to take on Hearts for a spot in the ViaPlay Cup final.

Rangers cruised to a 3-1 win and it was their British players that took centre stage with James Tavernier and Scott Wright scoring the goals in a cracking second-half.

The squad is really starting to come together though with Danilo and Abdallah Sima playing big roles at Hampden Park as the wins continue to flow.

Long may that continue.

In other Rangers news, the Gers want to hire this Liverpool chief.
