Chris Jack sends warning to Rangers after win v Hearts at Hampden Park
Chris Jack has warned Rangers fans not to get too far ahead of themselves off the back of recent performances, but shared reason for optimism and excitement will emerge when the trophy room doors are opened.
Jack reminded fans that there will likely be some trials and tribulations in the near future despite the flying start to Philippe Clement’s reign, but a trophy in the Viaplay Cup would help to build excitement.
He also commented that if Rangers can go into the new year within sight of Celtic at the top of the table and with a trophy in hand, they will be able to dare to dream about a bright future at Ibrox.

Jack was writing in his column for the Rangers Review [6 November] as he shared: “Now is not the time to get ahead of themselves and to lose sight of the trials and tribulations that will follow, even if each challenge that is overcome offers hope that there could be light at the end of the tunnel.
“The targets upon Clement’s appointment were clear to lay out but far from certain to be achieved. Boxes are being ticked game by game. If Rangers can end the year within sight of Celtic and with European progression and the Viaplay Cup secured, then supporters will have licence to dare to dream.
“Clement will continue to take it one game and one win at a time. If the doors to the Trophy Room are opened next month, perhaps even he will start to get excited about what can be achieved at Ibrox.”
Patience is a virtue
Rangers fans will have learned from the struggles under Michael Beale that a fast start and some strong performances do not yet constitute a successful period. That will come with time, and the Viaplay Cup is the perfect opportunity to get the ball rolling.
Heading into the new year with a trophy in hand will be an ideal start for Clement, and a foundation on which he can continue to build a strong and successful side that competes at the top of the game across all competitions.

For now, despite the fast start and successful form, there are still likely to be some hurdles to overcome as the boss attempts to implement his style of play and philosophy on a side which, ultimately, is not yet his. Patience will be needed and afforded to him, but the fans must temper expectations.
And even if he gets off to the best possible start and wins every single week, the lowering of expectations will allow fans to take everything as it comes, much like as has been seen with Tottenham in the Premier League this season.
In other Rangers news, Hugh Keevins has laughed at the fans’ attitude.
