Sir Kenny Dalglish shares Rangers v Hearts verdict after Ibrox controversy

Sir Kenny Dalglish is hoping for a lack of controversy in the ViaPlay Cup semi-final between Rangers and Hearts at Hampden Park on Sunday 5 November.

The Scottish legend has insisted that the quality on show will hopefully be the only talking point, rather than the opposite as happened at Ibrox between the two sides last week.

Philippe Clement saw his side score two last-gasp goals to win 2-1 against the Jambos, with Steven Naismith not happy with the second penalty decision.

He wrote in the Sunday Post [5 November, pg 20]: “Philippe Clement is now in the Ibrox hotseat and he has a chance of taking the club to a major final this afternoon.

“If they can defeat Hearts at Hampden they will be back for the League Cup Final at the national stadium on December 17. They had a close game against the Jambos last weekend and it was full of controversy.

“Steven Naismith wasn’t happy with the performance of the match officials and let’s hope we are only talking about the quality of the football at full-time.”

Rangers

Outside noise.

Clement will be blocking all of this noise out ahead of his first trip to Hampden Park, only a handful of games into his management career at Rangers.

Of course, it was laid out for him in that sense, but he still needs to go and do the job, with Aberdeen awaiting the winner in the final next month.

Michael Beale tried and failed to win silverware on numerous occasions, so getting this one over the line early on would be a huge achievement for the squad and Clement.

Controversy cannot just be wished on, it will be created, and it usually spawns from the officials, just look at some moments of madness in the other semi-final on Saturday [04 November].

Rangers are really starting to hit their groove now after months of trying, and after destroying Dundee last time out, it should be a different look side to the one that struggled past Hearts last week, that’s for sure.

Here’s to another win.
