Rangers want to hire Liverpool chief Alex Inglethorpe for senior Ibrox role
Rangers are eyeing up a move to hire Alex Inglethorpe as their new director of football, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon account on Sunday (5 November) that the Liverpool academy manager is in the frame for the job at Ibrox with his name being mentioned in Govan due to a failure to hire Sam Jewell from Brighton.
It is understood that Inglethorpe is seen as a “left-field option” by the Gers, who are still hunting down a replacement for Ross Wilson after he left his sporting director role at Ibrox at the end of last season.

Good pedigree
If Rangers do hire Inglethorpe, they’ll be taking a bit of a chance because he’s never done this role before.
He’s currently the academy director at Liverpool, which is a big job in itself and can show that he’s great at recruiting up-and-coming youngsters.
But what about setting out teams of scouts to scour Europe – or beyond – to find players who can instantly slot into the first team at Ibrox and also be responsible for hiring managers?
It’s a massive job, way bigger than what Inglethorpe is currently doing.

However, this is a man who’s worked at Tottenham in the past and for Liverpool for a long time.
There’s no doubt that the former Watford and Leyton Orient striker has a big book of contacts from working at two of the biggest clubs in England.
It’ll be interesting to see if this progresses because the process to hire Wilson’s successor has been painfully slow and cannot be helping the team in the long run.
Ultimately, the lack of a sporting director, or director of football, led to Michael Beale signing whoever he wanted in the summer only to be sacked a couple of months later for wasting millions.
Rangers cannot allow that to happen again.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement was robbed of an “absolute machine” at Ibrox.
