Rangers rejected by former Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber amid Ibrox denials
Stuart Webber is still seen as the “perfect fit” to be Rangers sporting director within the industry despite the club insisting there has been no approach, according to Ben Jacobs.
The CBS journalist told GiveMeSport on 4 November that the Light Blues have already attempted to appoint the 39-year-old once and been knocked back, but the links are continuing even with the Ibrox hierarchy “firmly downplaying” the idea.
Webber apparently plans to take time out of football before deciding on his next move following his time at Norwich City.

Jacobs said: “A more obvious fit would have been Rangers, who have actually tried for Webber before, but he didn’t want to go.
“A lot of people in the industry feel like Webber would be the perfect fit for Rangers, but sources close to Rangers are firmly downplaying that there has been any approach or that there have been any talks.
“At the moment, there’s nothing in the Leeds links. If Leeds do want to reunite Daniel Farke with Webber, they might have to be very patient because it sounds like Webber is looking to bide his time and take a bit of personal time out of the game before determining what his next move is.”
Rumbles on
There appeared to be movement during the summer towards replacing Ross Wilson, who left for Nottingham Forest in back in April, but nothing transpired and the club have since replaced Michael Beale as manager with Philippe Clement.
The Ibrox hierarchy will therefore need to ensure they find a candidate who isn’t going to butt heads with, or undermine, the Belgian.
It would seem that the failed Beale era should have warned the club off the idea of letting the manager take on some of the sporting director role himself, particularly after the summer squad overhaul has so far flopped.

If Rangers do want Webber it sounds like they are going to have to wait either way, but if he turned them down once then clearly something significant will have had to change in his mind to accept.
On that basis it would seem that he is unlikely to be on the way in at Ibrox any time soon and the role will continue to go unfilled.
Clement certainly seems like a figure with some authority already, and early results have been encouraging, but with a transfer window on the horizon it could be asking for some of the same problems as the summer to leave the recruitment primarily at the manager’s door.
In other Rangers news, Shankland should already be at Ibrox but “big move” may now never happen claims pundit.
