Rangers: Journalist spots something that could ‘go a long way’ for ‘beleaguered’ Sam Lammers

A talk with Rangers assistant manager Stephan Van Der Heyden could “go a long way” for Sam Lammers, according to Daily Record journalist Matthew Fulton.

The striker was spotted speaking with the coach during a training session, according to the Daily Record (3 November).

Summer signing Lammers has two goals from his 20 appearances for the club, with his latest coming in the 5-0 win against Dundee on Wednesday (1 November).

“Sam Lammers still needs some guidance to get his Rangers career off the ground,” Fulton wrote for the Daily Record (3 November).

“A goal in midweek was crucial to break his duck, but a personal word from Clement’s right-hand man Van Der Heyden could go a long way for the beleaguered forward.”

Turning point?

Lammers has really struggled since his move to the Scottish Premiership club in the summer transfer window. But he isn’t the only man who was signed by former manager Michael Beale to fail to live up to expectation at Ibrox.

The likes of fellow attackers Danilo and Cyriel Dessers haven’t exactly set Ibrox alight, with their struggles playing a major part in Beale’s sacking last month.

But the forwards may just be benefitting from a change in the dugout, with goals from them coming a bit more frequently under new manager Philippe Clement.

It remains to be seen who the boss will start in the final third when Rangers take on Hearts in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday (5 November), but Lammers will be desperate to be on the teamsheet.

One summer signing who should definitely be handed a starting role is Abdallah Sima, who has enjoyed life in Scotland since his loan move from Brighton.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have scouted an international midfielder, with a January transfer on the cards for the player.
