Simon Jordan admits he is a fan of Rangers boss Philippe Clement after Jim White claims he’d taken a ‘liking’ live on talkSPORT

Simon Jordan has “taken an early liking” to new Rangers boss Philippe Clement he has admitted after it was put to him by Jim White.

The talkSPORT pundit said live on the station on 2 November that “I quite like the cut of” the Belgian amid an unbeaten start to life at Ibrox.

It was the lone positive assessment of the current situation at Rangers as the pair variously slammed fans on both sides of the Old Firm over recent controversies.

White said (10.56am): “Philippe Clement, I think he’s a man who you took an early liking to.”

Jordan replied: “I quite like the cut of him, I do yeah.”

New manager bounce

There isn’t much to complain about so far in terms of Clement’s start to life at Rangers so it is little surprise that Jordan would be impressed.

That is especially true when the three-time Belgian title-winner’s demeanour is assessed in contrast to predecessor Michael Beale.

While Clement has largely made clear he isn’t interested in stoking any narratives via the media Beale was often all too happy to do plenty of talking, only to not back it up in practice.

Three wins from three in the SPFL so far, and a creditable point away in the Europa League, is certainly a tangible improvement on the pitch, although there were worrying signs of familiar struggles in the late win over Hearts a week ago.

He will need to oversee a major improvement against the same opposition this weekend as he looks to beat Steven Naismith a second time in eight days and reach the Viaplay Cup final.

Clement’s two main objectives before the turn of the year will be to lift the trophy and beat Celtic on 30 December, but in the mean time he has to keep winning one way or another and so far he has managed to do that.

In other Rangers news, a mooted £5million January transfer is expected to be a sure-fire success at Ibrox if it gets done.
