Rangers want to sign Nathaniel Adjei after breakthrough season, January transfer on the cards – Sky Sports

Rangers are in the hunt to sign Hammarby defender Nathanel Adjei, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported via their live transfer blog on Thursday (2 November, 5:10pm) that Celtic, as well as teams in Belgium and Italy, are also interested in the 21-year-old Ghanaian.

It is understood that Rangers sent representatives to watch Adjei in person in October and the centre-back, who can also play at right-back, is now set to decide on his future in Sweden.

Hammarby’s season finishes in November and Sky Sports claims that a January move away from them is a “possible outcome”.

Interesting

This seems like the kind of link that Rangers could seriously pursue.

Players in Scandinavia can be relatively cheap and it’s a market that the Gers really need to start exploiting more and more.

There have been some seriously good players in Scottish football from the likes of Norway, Denmark and Sweden throughout the years and while Adjei is Ghanaian, he’s been plying his trade in Sweden for a couple of years.

The Ghana Under-23 international has risen up through the ranks at Hammarby and this season, he’s played 24 times across all competitions and also scored his first professional goal in a 4-3 win over Djugarden in May.

There’s no harm in Rangers trying to strengthen their defence, especially by looking at a young, versatile player in Adjei.

If Celtic are looking at him – and admittedly their recruitment has been way better than ours lately – then it’s a good sign. It remains to be seen who the clubs in Belgium and Italy are but that’s also encouraging to see him on the radar in those countries too.

Philippe Clement has started things off well on the pitch at Rangers.

Let’s hope he can start doing the same off the pitch when it comes to recruitment.

In other Rangers news, Clement could force this senior player to quit in January.
