Graham Dorrans shares one area that Rangers need Danilo to improve on

Graham Dorrans has suggested that Danilo still needs to work on his finishing, suggesting the Rangers striker should have scored “five or six” against Dundee.

The Light Blues continued their unbeaten run under the management of Philippe Clement with an excellent 5-0 win over Dundee on Wednesday (1 November), with the Brazilian doubling the lead early in the second half.

It was Danilo’s second goal in as many Scottish Premiership matches as he returned to the starting line-up for the first time since he suffered a fractured cheekbone against St Johnstone. While Dorrans was impressed with his performance, he has called for the 24-year-old to be more clinical.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (2 November, 26:08) he said: “He was very good, I thought his performance was very good. Held the ball up well, he’s got that pace, looks very comfortable on the ball, and his technique looks good.

“The only one thing I probably would say missing from his game is that he probably could have had five or six goals last night, a few chances, one in the six-yard box that he should have scored with but he never.

“But he managed to get on the scoresheet so hopefully that will build his confidence as well.”

Room to improve

It’s safe to say of the three permanent striker arrivals at Ibrox, Danilo has looked a much better purchase than either of Sam Lammers or Cyriel Dessers, despite struggling for fitness throughout the early stages of his Rangers career so far.

He led the line excellently against Dundee, but like almost all of Clement’s current playing squad, it feels as though the Brazilian can still click into another gear and become even better in a light blue shirt over the coming season and beyond.

Rangers

The 24-year-old had an incredibly high nine shots on Wednesday night and missed a total of four big chances in the match as he only found the net once from an xG of 2.07, showing that Dorrans was correct in suggesting the forward could be more clinical despite his good display [Fotmob].

If Danilo can start to consistently finish his chances and continue to create as many opportunities as he did against Dundee, he could well turn out to be the Alfredo Morelos replacement that supporters in Ibrox have so desperately been hoping he could be.

However, if he misses that many chances in crucial games against the likes of Celtic, he could well end up like Fashion Sakala and be remembered more for his misses than his goals.
