Sam Lammers has ensured he won’t be ‘forgotten’ at Rangers with excellent display against Dundee
Like many of Michael Beale’s summer signings at Rangers, Sam Lammers has found it hard to find his feet in Glasgow having arrived from Atalanta.
The Dutchman has been widely criticised for his ineffective early displays for the Light Blues, with many questioning how the 26-year-old has continued to hold down a starting position under both Beale and Philippe Clement so far this season.
But against Dundee on Wednesday (1 November) Lammers looked to have arrived, as he scored and assisted in Rangers’ 5-0 win and was integral to everything that Clement’s side did going forward as the Gers maintained their unbeaten start under the Belgian.

Lammers’ second-half strike was only his second in the Scottish Premiership this season and it was a special effort, with the Dutchman producing a moment of magic to curl his left-footed strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Few players in the Rangers side would have been able to take that chance, with the effort only registering an xG of 0.09 and it was one of many opportunities the 26-year-old had. Lammers took aim at Trevor Carson’s goal on five occasions, seeing two efforts saved and one blocked [Fotmob].
On top of his own chances, Lammers was a creative force for his teammates, playing eight passes into the final third, including the ball to set up Cyriel Dessers for his goal in the closing stages of the match.
No player completed more dribbles in the game than the Dutchman as he got on the ball and attempted to drive the Light Blues up the field in a similar fashion to what is typically expected from Todd Cantwell when deployed behind the centre-forward.

Charlie Miller had said that Clement couldn’t afford to drop Lammers in the coming weeks, saying that he wasn’t the first player to struggle having made the move to Ibrox and that it was clear that he was doing what he could to change his fortunes [Daily Record, 31 October].
Miller had warned that if the Dutchman had lost his place he could be “quickly forgotten” should his replacement hit the ground running and Lammers’ display against Dundee has likely ensured that he won’t be forgotten by Clement or supporters in the coming weeks.
