Michael Stewart awestruck by ‘sensational’ Rangers footage of Sam Lammers in 5-0 win v Dundee
BBC Scotland pundit Michael Stewart was left awestruck by the “sensational” goal scored by Rangers forward Sam Lammers in his side’s 5-0 win over Dundee.
Lammers ended a 16-game drought without a goal in some style with his strike from outside of the box, which went in off the underside of the crossbar.
The Dutchman has struggled to make any real sort of impact since joining from Atalanta in the summer, but Stewart hopes that strike could be the turning point.
“Not bad that. What a sensational goal that is,” he told BBC Sportscene [1 November, 1hr 11m 26s]. “Just top class, it really is.
“It comes to him at a fair pace, he controls it brilliantly and shifts it onto his left foot. You could stick three Trevor Carsons in goal and he’s not stopping it. It’s a goal of the highest order.
“Up until that point it was a trademark Lammers performance for Rangers, where he was not doing a great deal and not involved in anything.
“But that is a massive goal for him and should do his confidence a load of good. He needs to push on and show more end product if he is going to maintain his position in the team.”
Wow
Quite why Michael Beale, Philippe Clement and even Steven Davis for his first game in caretaker charge have persisted with Lammers is bizarre.

The 26-year-old has not only struggled for goals and assists, but he also appeared to be offering next to nothing in terms of build-up play.
Even against Dundee that was the case up until this sublime strike from range, which finally showed a glimpse of what he is capable of.
Lammers pounced on a loose ball around 22 yards out, took a touch to settle himself and fired over Carson with barely any backlift.
It was the third goal in a thumping 5-0 win for Rangers at Dens Park – a victory that should fill each player with plenty of confidence.
As Stewart said, Lammers in particular must use this goal as a chance to turn around his Ibrox career and fully justify his starting spot.
