Derek Ferguson slams Sam Lammers for ‘horrendous’ Rangers moment v Dundee
Derek Ferguson has slammed Sam Lammers for a “horrendous” moment just minutes before he scored for Rangers in their 5-0 win over Dundee.
The Light Blues continued their unbeaten start to life under Philippe Clement on Wednesday (1 November) with an exceptional performance in what was arguably their best display so far under the management of the former Monaco boss.
Lammers scored his second Scottish Premiership goal with a “terrific” long-range effort, but Ferguson was keen to admit that the Dutchman still has plenty to improve in the coming weeks, especially after seeing him fall over midway through the second half.

Speaking on Open Goal (2 November) he said: “I watched the Hearts game again on the Monday and couldn’t believe how poor he was. He’s a lucky, lucky boy to get a start. He gives possession away, even last night at times when he was popping the ball off he was putting his teammates under pressure.
“His goal is terrific, that’s the new manager, trying to stick with these guys to get the best out of them. There must be quality in there somewhere, but we’ve not seen it except with the goal.
“Two or three minutes before the goal he falls in the box, he looks horrendous and he’s all over the place.”
Horrendous
One goal will have immensely eased the immediate pressure on Lammers’ shoulders and while it was a superb striker, it papered over what was a fairly average all-around display on Wednesday, barring one moment of magic in the second half.
Lammers has often looked slightly out of place in the Light Blues side and while horrendous is a pretty damning way of describing his Rangers career so far, Ferguson isn’t far wrong and Clement needs to see more from the Dutchman in the coming weeks.

Far too often he sacrifices possession or wastes a valuable opportunity, luckily on Wednesday he made up for that with his goal, but it is unlikely that he’ll curl one in from 25 yards week in and week out, especially given how he’s performed so far at Ibrox.
However, there are few better confidence boosters that a goal of that quality and that finish against Dundee might just be what Lammers needed to get his Rangers career up and running. Now supporters just need to see that obvious quality on show more often than they have so far.
In other Rangers news, Mark Wilson believes the Light Blues’ win over Dundee was their best performance under Clement so far
