Mark Wilson labels Rangers win over Dundee as Light Blues ‘best performance’ under Philippe Clement
Mark Wilson has heaped praise on Philippe Clement for getting off to an “impressive start” with Rangers, labelling the win over Dundee as their best performance.
The Light Blues continued their good start to life under the management of the Belgian, with a 5-0 win away to Tony Docherty’s side on Wednesday (1 November), despite a delayed kick-off time and an early interruption in the match due to pyrotechnics in the away end.
While the delays could have left Rangers unfocused they put in what Wilson believes to have been their best performance under Clement so far and he was keen to praise the manager.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (2 November, 10:44) he said: “There’s no doubt it’s unsettling. It’s unsettling enough when you’re stuck on the bus in traffic and wanting to get there in time for the game, only for the game to get put back, preparations to get put back.
“For [the stoppage] to happen just after the game started, that’s really difficult for a player and management team to get regrouped and refocused on a game. You’ve got to give huge credit to Rangers for achieving that. Under Clement it’s been a good start, you’ve got to say.
“Performances haven’t blown anybody away, but when you look at the stats, the goals they’ve scored, conceded, the European performance, it’s been an impressive start. Last night was probably the best performance with goals for Lammers, Dessers, Danilo – he’s getting a tune out of some of the guys that Michael Beale struggled with.”
Getting better
The start to Clement’s Rangers career has been impressive, with the Light Blues unbeaten in three Scottish Premiership matches since the Belgian arrived in Glasgow, as well as picking up a hard-fought point away to Sparta Prague in the Europa League.
Although results have been impressive, as Wilson suggested, they have papered over some indifferent performances at times, but against Dundee, it felt as though everything clicked and Rangers found their feet once again.

The circumstances couldn’t have been much more unsettling and yet the Gers found a way not only to win, but win convincingly, with everybody playing their part. the likes of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers looked lost under the management of Beale, but have discovered their touch once again under Clement.
Hopefully, this is not a case of a new manager bounce and Rangers will continue to impress for the remainder of the season and Clement’s tenure, as it is much better to watch than most of what came during Beale’s time in Scotland.
