Nico Raskin deletes Instagram message posted during Rangers win v Dundee

Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin posted and swiftly deleted a message on Instagram during his side’s win over Dundee.

The 22-year-old was not part of Philippe Clement’s matchday squad after being stretchered off during last weekend’s victory against Hearts.

Raskin praised Rangers fans for their support at Dens Park, accompanied by an image of a number of flares being let off in the away end.

However, the flares set off smoke alarms inside the stands and the game had to be halted with just a couple of minutes on the clock.

That may have played a part in Raskin’s decision to take down the post on his personal Instagram account on Wednesday (1 November).

Great support

Raskin was right to praise the – as usual – superb support from the travelling Rangers supporters, but perhaps not in these circumstances.

The game was in doubt throughout the day due to bad weather and delayed by around 45 minutes due to traffic congestion around the ground.

That only heightened frustrations when the game was halted a couple of minutes in due to flares being let off.

Rangers

While it made for some brilliant photos, including the one shared by Raskin, it could have – and may still – landed Rangers in plenty of bother.

Since the start of this season, it is now a criminal offence to have a flare on your possession at a Scottish football ground [BBC Sport].

You have to wonder whether someone gave Raskin a nudge to remind him of that as his post was taken down as quickly as it went up.

Now we await to see if there will be any sanctions from the authorities due to the additional 15-minute delay to the contest.

In other Rangers news, a BBC Sport pundit accused a Gers player of trying to be “too clever” against Dundee.
