Aston Villa want Borna Barisic transfer as Rangers news emerges

Aston Villa are one of the clubs who want to sign Rangers defender Borna Barisic in the near future, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian newspaper reported on its website [02 November], that the Croatian international is an attractive proposition at very little cost with his contract expiring.

Monchi recently moved to Villa Park from Sevilla and is said to like the defender for his new club, with Roma also said to be interested in a move.

Barisic has been hit by injury worries since the arrival of the new manager, Philippe Clement, so has not yet really had the opportunity to prove himself.

Ridvan Yilmaz has now jumped to the top of the pecking order, and the Croatian will need to prove himself if he wants a new contract and wants to stick around.

Decisions.

This would genuinely split the Ibrox fanbase, with many believing that the time is right for a change, but some thinking that Barisic can go up another level.

With his contract expiring soon, Rangers don’t stand to benefit on a financial front too much, but if they were to hand him a new deal with an agreement he could be sold if a certain fee is hit, it could make sense.

Aston Villa are pushing for Champions League football alongside their Premier League riches under Unai Emery, so that would be no issue for them.

Roma and Italian clubs rarely spend big money, and if they do, it is riddled with many clauses and stipulations, so they would likely only move on a free deal.

Barisic has a decision to make, and Clement could be central to that with how he views his future, as the time may be right for Yilmaz to move forward as number one.

This is certainly one to watch.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has claimed that a Gers first-team player will jump at the chance to leave Ibrox as a transfer story has emerged recently.
