Pundit moots Rangers January transfer for Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland

Barry Ferguson believes that Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland should leave in the January transfer window and join Rangers.

Gers have been linked with a move for the Scotland international who has made the back pages in recent months for his goal-scoring exploits.

He even scored a goal against Philippe Clement’s side over the weekend in front of a packed Ibrox crowd.

Rangers

Ferguson told Go Radio, as quoted by Football Scotland: “I was so impressed with Lawrence Shankland. Take away the goal, his link-up play, build-up play, I think as he’s got older he’s got better. I would be enquiring and asking what is the script how long has he got left on his contract. What would it cost?

“I am not saying Lawrence Shankland is going to score 30 goals in Europe or get you further in the Europa League. But he is a very good football player and I would be looking at that and thinking to myself ‘is there a possibility that could happen?'”

Good move

The 28-year-old Scotland international has earned himself a move to a big club and it’s about time he seals an exit.

Strikers are seldom at their best once they cross 30, and the next nine months are probably the last he’ll have to seal a big move.

Shankland scored a “magnificent” goal recently against Celtic and then he also found the back of the net against Gers.

This shows that he can deliver against top sides even though his team is not good enough on paper.

He can also play as a number 10 or on the right wing as well and it’ll be interesting to see where he features should Rangers sign him.

Hopefully, he can be what Kemar Roofe was to the team when fit and score goals in clutch moments as he’s certainly got that in him.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has claimed that a Gers first-team player will jump at the chance to leave Ibrox as a transfer story has emerged recently.
