Pundit issues finances verdict on Rangers ahead of January transfer window

Barry Ferguson believes that money may be tight in the January window for Rangers under new manager Philippe Clement.

The Belgian took over the reins from Michael Beale after an underwhelming start to the 2023/24 SPFL season.

Despite making a number of signings over the summer, Gers will be looking to bring in new players through the door.

Ferguson told Go Radio, as quoted by Football Scotland: “I know money might be tight because a lot of money was spent in the summer. The new manager coming in, I think they will try to find money from somewhere and bring in maybe two or three that the manager likes.

“It freshens the squad up as well. January is a tough window as generally, the players you are going for haven’t played much football either. But I am sure the Rangers board will try everything in their power to try and help the new manager.”

Changes needed

This Rangers squad is not good enough to win the title unless and until Celtic have a major collapse in the second half of the season.

Clement has just taken over and it’ll undoubtedly take him some time to imprint his philosophy on his side.

However, he will want some of his own players if he is to begin an overhaul and it may start in January itself.

The board will definitely back him in the window as he will have joined under the assurances of making some additions to the squad.

A new centre-back and perhaps even a right-back may be the priority as there were plenty of attackers and midfielders signed recently.

It may be time to upgrade on the current crop of defenders and hopefully, that starts from January itself.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has claimed that a Gers first-team player will jump at the chance to leave Ibrox as a transfer story has emerged recently.
