Rangers fans proved right after what happened at half-time against Hearts

Rangers continued their strong start to life under boss Philippe Clement with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Hearts.

James Tavernier and Danilo scored very late goals after Lawrence Shankland scored early for the visitors at Ibrox on Sunday (29 October).

It was by no means an impressive display from the hosts, but it was still a very important result as the Gers closed the gap on leaders Celtic to five points.

And that result would not have been achieved if it wasn’t for a major tactical decision from the new man in the dugout.

Clement decided to start the match with summer signing Cyriel Dessers leading the line, but the striker was axed at half-time for fellow summer arrival Danilo.

And as per BBC Sport journalist Kheredine Idessane (29 October), it was a substitution that was met by a “huge roar” from the Ibrox faithful.

The home supporters may have been cheering the fact that Dessers was being removed from the arena, but the much more likely reason for the celebrations was due to the arrival of Danilo.

And he didn’t disappoint his manager or the men in blue in the stands, with the striker heading home a Tavernier cross in the dying seconds to secure another massive win for the Glasgow club.

Hearts boss Steven Naismith didn’t have quite so much luck with one of his substitutes, with 78th-minute arrival Peter Haring giving away a penalty for a foul on Connor Goldson in the 89th minute, which Gers captain Tavernier slotted home.
