Philippe Clement could cut Ianis Hagi Rangers loan short after recent displays

Ianis Hagi has been putting in consistently impressive displays during his spell at Alavez in La Liga, and Philippe Clement could move to bring him back to Rangers as a result.

Alavez have struggled in recent games, having failed to win any of their last four, but Hagi has been a standout in three of those as the attacking outlet in their midfield.

The positions he takes up and his bravery in possession would fit in well with Clement’s style, and his creativity could lend a new dimension to Rangers’ game that has been lacking so far this season.

In Alavez’s 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid on 29 October, Hagi came off the bench to grab an assist in a performance which was lauded by national media.

Respected Spanish football newspaper AS labelled him “One of the best”, writing via their website following the game: “He finished and took good crosses. In fact, he was the assistant on Guevara’s goal. He saw a yellow card. He hits him well with both legs.”

Hagi played 27 minutes in Madrid, picking up an assist, recording a 100% dribble success rate, winning 100% of his aerial duels as well as two ground duels, and wasn’t afraid to let shots off although he failed to hit the target. [Sofascore]

In his two La Liga appearances prior to that game, Hagi recorded a combined five key passes and three successful crosses, racked up 0.98xG, and created two big chances in 128 minutes of football as he showed his creative prowess.

His ability to play out wide as well as through the middle could also solve some of their other issues with the lack of depth particularly in wide areas.

Hagi’s creativity is something Rangers have been missing so far this season, with Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin bearing the brunt of the creative burden, and have recorded one assist each so far, so the return of Hagi could be a tempting option for the new boss.

In other Rangers news, Chris Jack has shared a new injury boost.
