Tam McManus fumes at Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers after Rangers draw v Sparta Prague

Tam McManus has ripped into Rangers duo Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers after the draw with Sparta Prague, labelling them a “monumental waste”.

The summer signings started the clash in Prague and were largely anonymous in a poor performance as Philippe Clement earned a point with a makeshift team, but they had chances to win it late on which they failed to take.

And McManus, writing on his personal Twitter account (26 October) branded the forward duo as a waste of money and said Rangers could have nicked it if they had any quality in attack.

“Great point for Rangers,” he wrote.

“Solid defensively. 2nd best for an hour but a combination of Sparta running out of ideas/tiring and subs on for Rangers made a difference.

“Could have nicked it at the end if had ANY quality at top end of the pitch. Dessers and Lammers a monumental waste of [money].”

Trouble

Michael Beale got backed in the summer transfer window and there were definitely some questions raised at the time about the quality of the players he brought in.

Jack Butland has been sensational in goal and stepped into the gloves of Allan McGregor brilliantly and Abdallah Sima has been the best outfield signing with nine goals in 17 games.

Rangers

But Leon Balogun and Dujon Sterling have barely seen the pitch since joining, Jose Cifuentes, Danilo and Kieran Dowell have struggled to stay fit and make an impact and Lammers and Dessers have been atrocious.

They have lacked quality, lacked goals, lacked sharpness despite playing regularly and they look bereft of the amount of quality needed to make it at this level.

Clement has a big task on his hands to turn their fortunes around, and sooner or later a decision will need to be made on if the club moves forward with them or not.

In other Rangers news, major behind-the-scenes appointment “close” as Jim White moots announcement soon.
