Derek Clark urges Rangers to sell Michael Beale signing in January

Rangers should consider selling Sam Lammers at the earliest possible opportunity, according to journalist Derek Clark.

Lammers only arrived at Ibrox from Serie A side Atalanta in June, with the Gers paying a reported fee of £3million for the forward [Sky Sports].

The Dutchman has struggled to make any sort of impact since joining, however, and Clark believes a move away in January is now a possibility.

Speaking on the Rangers Review podcast on Friday [27 October, 20m 49s], Clark said: “A very strange signing for me.

“I don’t know where he fits in this Rangers side, and I don’t know where he goes – who’s going to take him off Rangers’ hands?

“They should be looking for potential suitors come January because he does not fit in this Rangers side.”

Damning indictment

The less said about Rangers’ summer transfer business, the better. Around £15m was spent on new recruits, yet many have been anonymous.

In fact, impressive goalkeeper Jack Butland aside, none of them have yet to really justify their transfer fee.

While the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Abdallah Sima and Danilo have had their moments, Lammers has offered next to nothing.

The stalemate with Sparta Prague on Thursday (26 October) was the latest in a growing list of disappointing performances from the 26-year-old.

Rangers

Lammers has now made 18 appearances for the Light Blues and has just one goal and zero assists to his name – simply not good enough.

The hope is that new boss Philippe Clement can get the best out of him, but it might just be that Rangers cut their losses in the coming months.

And that really would be a damning indictment of Michael Beale’s Ibrox tenure.

In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist finds a decision made by the Gers “absolutely baffling”.
