Ally McCoist reacts as Graeme Souness ‘Close’ to Rangers return in behind-the-scenes appointment

Ally McCoist believes it’s a “terrific move” for Rangers to appoint Graeme Souness to the club’s backroom staff after he revealed a deal was “close” for his return.

Souness revealed on talkSPORT (26 October) that a deal was nearly agreed for his return in a consultancy role, months after he turned down a return as the job description wasn’t what he envisioned.

And when asked live on TNT Sports (27 October) for his reaction to the news, McCoist admitted that he believes it can “only be a good thing” to have someone with Rangers DNA involved behind the scenes.

“I think it’s a terrific move to be quite frank with you,” he said.

“I get back to saying one of the biggest losses in my opinion in their recent history was when Sandy Jardine tragically passed away.

“Sandy wasn’t heavily involved in the footballing side, but you have to have people within the football club that have the DNA and understand the DNA of the football club.

“Sandy had that, Graeme Souness is one.

“I’m not saying for a minute that the spine of the club has to be all Rangers people of days gone by, I’m not saying that. But I think from a supporters point of view as well I think there’s an air of, you feel comfortable with people that you know.

“Graeme clearly is a Rangers man and a very intelligent and excellent football man. So it can only be a good thing.”

Spot on

Souness will come into the role and will no doubt have his own vision and ideas for how to take Rangers back to where we belong, and while they may not all be right or work out there will be no questioning his reasoning.

Rangers

By having football people in charge you know that decisions aren’t being made simply for financial reasons and that fans are always going to be considered, and that’s all we want.

We know things can’t be perfect, but especially right now we know that things can be much better and Souness will bring standards to the side again to ensure we get back to winning trophies and being on top of the Scottish game as a minimum.

He spoke highly of Philippe Clement too which suggests they will have no issues working together either, and only positive things can come from Rangers and Souness partnering up once again.

If anyone knows that it’s McCoist, so hopefully it won’t be too long before this club is back were we belong.
