Philippe Clement makes first key mistake as Rangers manager as XI v Sparta Prague announced

Philippe Clement may be putting a lot of faith in Sam Lammers as Rangers have announced their XI to take on Sparta Prague.

No Europa League game can be considered a gimme so the Belgian should be putting his strongest side out there.

It’s also his first European match in charge of his new club and will be looking for his players to deliver the goods on the day.

Picking Lammers when he’s done nothing to justify his selection, seems baffling, to say the least, by Clement.

Having Danilo on the bench gives him that option to play him up top with Cyriel Dessers and that’ll be a better pairing than him and Lammers.

Even Ryan Jack’s inclusion in midfield would work and perhaps give the side a more fluid look in the final third.

An away European game is always going to be tough to navigate and it won’t be surprising if he decides to bring the Dutchman off at some stage in the contest.

Rangers

Hopefully, they begin the game on the front foot and put early pressure on the hosts and get a goal to mount the pressure on them.

Clement will have his players prepared for this one, undoubtedly, but the inclusion of Ben Davies at left-back may be the weak point.

It’s hard to blame the manager for this due to the lack of options in the team, but it’s still an Achilles heel in the side for tonight.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has claimed that a Gers first-team player will jump at the chance to leave Ibrox as a transfer story has emerged recently.
