Manager raves about ‘amazing’ Philippe Clement ahead of Rangers showdown v Sparta Prague
Brian Priske has raved about new Rangers manager Philippe Clement ahead of the game against Sparta Prague on Thursday (26 October).
Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday (25 October, via BBC Sport) before the Europa League clash, the Czech club’s boss said he admires the Belgian, who he believes is an “amazing person” and a “good coach”.
The Danish manager revealed that he has kept in touch with the 49-year-old after playing with him for Club Brugge 15 years ago and wished him luck for his time in Glasgow, just not against his side over the next few weeks.
“It’s been 15 years since I quit Bruges,” said Priske. “But over the years we’ve kept in touch here and there, the year I spent with Antwerp we talked a few times, not just during the games but in general.
“Philippe is a person and a coach that I admire, he’s a gentleman in many aspects, he’s an amazing person and a good coach. He did amazing things in Genk and at Bruges, and I wish him all the best in Glasgow, just not in the coming weeks.”
Back it up
There have been an awful lot of good things said about Clement over the past couple of weeks since he was appointed as the new Rangers boss.
Priske clearly knows him well from their time together at Club Brugge and he will know what kind of character the Belgian is.
But it’s now time for him to back up all that praise as he looks to put the Gers in a position to challenge for trophies on a regular basis.
After picking up a comfortable 4-0 victory over Hibernian on Saturday (21 October), the game against Sparta will be his first big challenge as the Light Blues boss.
It will provide an indication of where the squad is at after previously struggling to put in performances in the big games under Michael Beale.
