Graeme Souness reveals he is close to Rangers return as Jim White moots announcement ‘soon’ live on talkSPORT

Graeme Souness has confirmed he is close to agreeing a deal to return to Rangers in a behind-the-scenes advisory role while live on talkSPORT.

The Gers legend was part of the interview process that saw Philippe Clement brought in to replace Michael Beale recently and there have been talks about a return to help out the club behind the scenes.

And while speaking to Jim White and Simon Jordan live on air (26 October, 11:23) Souness agreed that he is close to agreeing terms for a consultant role, with White suggesting an announcement could come soon.

“Maybe too busy to go back to Rangers, because I continually hear the likelihood is that you’ll head back there in some type of senior advisory role,” White said.

“I’m not sure it’s a senior advisory role,” Souness responded.. “It’s more of a consultant, ambassador. But I’m a Rangers supporter Jim.

“I had the chance to go back early season and I didn’t feel the job description was right for me but I’d love to help them. I want them to be successful again. I want them to be top of the league, I want them to be top of the Scottish game and do well in Europe going forward.

“If I can offer any advice to any part of the footballing part of the job then I’ll do it. And I have to say I’m pretty close to agreeing everything, we’ve just got a few things to iron out.”

“You’re close to agreeing so something could be announced soon,” White added.

Huge

What a moment it will be for Rangers to get a legend back in the building and driving the club back towards success.

It’s been a long time since the fans had a voice in the boardroom, and Souness is one of the biggest Rangers supporters there is. But he is also a legend of the club and of the sport and knows what he is talking about.

Every decision he makes or any piece of advice he gives will be all about getting Rangers back to the top of Scottish football and dominating again, while being competitive in Europe too.

It won’t be led by numbers or feelings, but experience and genuine love for the club which is what the fans want at Ibrox.

This would be a huge move for the club and a genuinely fascinating appointment and one that would surely only end well in the long run. It’s great to see and we’re delighted to hear he’s so close to making it a reality.
