Rangers at centre of hilarious mix-up at K-Pop gig in Texas

There was little for Rangers fans to smile about amid a dreadful start to the season but these past few days have seen the mood chance and one hilarious moment some 4,623 miles away will even have drawn some belly laughs.

K-Pop group STAYC – an acronym of their first album Star to a Young Culture – were performing in Dallas, Texas as part of a bumber tour of the United States.

To cry and curry favour with the locals, two members of the band had the great idea to don jerseys from local sports teams.

The only issue is there was seemingly a bit of a mix-up and one that certainly has caused hilarity among Light Blues supporters.

Indeed, the idea was to wear jerseys of MLB Team the Texas Rangers, who have just reached their first World Series since 2011, an outfit choice that would undoubtedly have proven popular.

Instead, there were probably more than a few confused faces in the crowd as the six-piece girl group came out wearing retro Rangers jerseys from the 1996-97 campaign (BBC News, 24 October), a shirt adorned by the likes of Paul Gascoigne and Ally McCoist and saw the Gers win the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup.

While it may not have landed with the locals it has certainly proven popular with Rangers fans on social media and no doubt some chuckles among those working at the club as well.

Spirits are certainly higher at Rangers, who started life under Philippe Clement with a 4-0 rout of Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday (21 October). Who knows, perhaps the club might convince the band to make a trip to Ibrox, where their attire would be appreciated more, one day.

In other Rangers news, one journalist said a summer signing played with the ‘weight of the world on his shoulders’ under Michael Beale.
