Club issues ban after shameful fan actions in Rangers v Hibernian match at Ibrox

Hibernian have moved swiftly to ban a supporter involved in allegedly mocking the Ibrox disaster during Saturday’s Scottish Premiership match with Rangers, according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

Parts of the Gers’ home ground were defaced with graffiti and stickers, which both clubs moving to condemn those actions after the Light Blues’ 4-0 victory on Saturday (21 October).

The Scottish outlet reported on Monday (23 October) that Hibs have already indefinitely banned one male fan, while vowing to identify and punish others who were involved.

Rangers

Shameful

Without going into detail of the stickers found around the away section, they were quite clearly in reference to the Ibrox disaster.

Sixty-six supporters were killed in a crush as supporters tried to leave the stadium after a game with Celtic in January 1971.

It goes without saying that the actions of that individual – and possibly others – is quite frankly sickening.

If there is any positive to come out of this, it is that Hibs have wasted little time in banning the ‘supporter’ in question – hopefully for a long, long time.

Rangers

Hibernian are also said to be scouring through CCTV footage to ensure they find all of those involved, so full credit to them for taking action.

Rivalry is a strong and welcome part of football, but it can never cross the line like this. The sooner some realise that, the better.

In other Rangers news, supporters should be excited following the emergence of an image on Sunday (22 October).
