Steven Thompson and Callum Davidson wowed by Abdallah Sima as Rangers footage emerges v Hibs

Steven Thompson and Callum Davidson were wowed by Abdallah Sima’s performance as Rangers beat Hibernian 4-0 on Philippe Clement’s debut.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene (21 October), the pair praised Sima’s 17th-minute opener at Ibrox, where some neat interplay with Cyriel Dessers afforded him space to sprint on goal before slotting away a powerful low strike.

Sima’s brace in the clash leaves him with nine goals in 16 appearances this season – the highest in the Rangers squad.

Davidson said: “The guy who is confident is Sima. As you can see here, it’s a great bit of play.”

Thompson responded: “Seven goals in his last six starts – he is on fire.”

Davidson continued: “It’s fantastic, head down one thought, he wants to go fast, he wants to hit the bottom corner. It’s a great finish.”

Main man?

With the likes of Dessers, Sam Lammers and Danilo arriving at the club this summer, few expected the Brighton loanee to emerge as Rangers’ main man.

Even during the stagnant Michael Beale football this season, the Senegal international was getting the goals, including two in the Europa League and now scoring in five consecutive games.

Clement’s debut was very hopeful and the Ibrox faithful will be reassured that Beale’s successor can get the best from the underperforming new signings. Dessers even closed the action at Ibrox with the fourth goal, but Sima will surely feature heavily in the boss’ plans across the campaign.

Fans will be disappointed that Sima will have to return to the English south coast after his loan ends, and if he keeps up his excellent form the Seagulls could either use him in their squad or sell him on for a good fee.

Regardless, Rangers still have him for another nine or so months, and his goalscoring could prove a real difference-maker as the Gers look to save their season.
