Spotted: Rangers fans should get excited as new Philippe Clement image emerges
Rangers manager Philippe Clement became an instant hit at Ibrox after his side cruised to a 4-0 win over Hibernian on Saturday (21 October).
Rather than use Sunday (22 October) to relax ahead of a busy week, which includes a trip to Sparta Prague, Clement was instead in attendance for the Rangers B side’s meeting with Breidablik at Auchenhowie.
The Gers fielded an interested starting line-up, as some first-team faces were selected – returning forward Danilo among them – alongside others desperately seeking a spot in Clement’s first-team squad.
Heart and Hand contributor James posted an image on Twitter (22 October) of Clement watching the match from the sidelines, along with his trusted assistant Stephan van der Heyden.
The fact Clement, who was only appointed a week ago, decided to watch the game up close is an exciting development for Rangers supporters.
The Belgian is clearly eager to ensure he is giving everyone a fair crack at first-team action, with the likes of Ben Davies and Leon Balogun among those in action against Icelandic side Breidablik.
Clement also got the chance to run the rule over younger players such as Ross McCausland, Leon King and Bailey Rice, who will all hope to pick up some minutes for the senior side.
Rather than just pick a group of 11 players and largely stick with them, it looks like Clement will take full advantage of the Gers’ big squad – those younger players included.
The more cynical supporters will simply see Clement turning up for a reserve game as an easy win as he aims to endear himself to the fanbase.
But the impressive former Monaco manager is clearly someone who will work around the clock to ensure he brings success back to Ibrox.
And who knows – one or two of those who caught Clement’s eye may just get a crack at first-team action in the coming week.
