Michael Stewart rages as BBC Sportscene footage emerges from Rangers 4-0 win v Hibernian

Michael Stewart was raging at Hibernian’s defending as they lost 4-0 away at Rangers on Saturday.

Philippe Clement won his first match in charge of the Light Blues in a comprehensive fashion thanks to an Abdallah Sima brace and goals by Nicolas Raskin and Cyriel Dessers.

Former Hibs midfielder Stewart couldn’t believe how poorly the Edinburgh side defended at Ibrox and pointed out how much space they allowed the Rangers attackers throughout the Scottish Premiership match.

Rangers

Speaking on BBC Sportscene on Saturday (21 October) after being told Dessers’ goal was easy, Stewart said: “Massively.

“Look, the big things you see there that the cameras are showing are the gaps in the Hibs team that Rangers exploited really well.

“Todd Cantwell is picking that up there in a really dangerous area and nobody’s near him. And then the ball is getting played to Dessers in the heart of the box and there’s nobody close enough.

“This is another strike from Dessers and he gets it on target but it’s noticeable the gaps – huge gaps – in the Hibs backline and at times, they’re charging back towards their own goal.

“That’s the biggest concern for Nick Montgomery.”

Raging

Stewart must have felt pretty miserable to be covering such a big Rangers win against one his former clubs on Saturday.

When he was first lined up to be a pundit on this weekend’s Sportscene show, he was probably hoping Michael Beale would be in charge of yet another awful performance.

Instead, Clement had clearly inspired Rangers into a wonderful display to hammer Hibs 4-0 and make a massive stride towards getting their season back on track.

What was noticeable about the performance was how some of the under-performing summer signings were on fire.

Sima has been great for weeks but Dessers was more clinical and while Sam Lammers didn’t score and squandered a couple of good chances, he was heavily involved and looked like a new player.

Beale was such a bad manager that he signed these players and couldn’t get a tune out of them.

Clement has taken less than a week to fix the Englishman’s pitfalls.

In other Rangers news, Nick Montgomery fumed at an “illegal” incident in the Ges’ win.
