Rangers usher in bright new Philippe Clement era already at Ibrox as Ross McCausland news emerges

Rangers look to have ushered in a bright new era under new manager Philippe Clement already at Ibrox with the club set to offer academy wonder Ross McCausland a new contract.

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano took to his personal Twitter account on Thursday (19 October) to report that the Light Blues were eager to extend the attacker’s stay in Glasgow beyond the end of the season, when his current deal at Ibrox runs out, having impressed bosses in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old forward is highly regarded at Ibrox and has already made some impressive cameo appearances for the Light Blues, coming off the bench in their last two games before the break and a Europa League cameo against Aris.

The winger is a project of the Rangers academy and signed his last contract at Ibrox in 2021, but with less than a year remaining on his current deal, the Gers were eager to tie him down after losing several high-profile talents over the years.

The Light Blues have undergone much change already in recent weeks, most notably in the dugout.

Former Monaco coach Clement was announced as the successor to Michael Beale on a deal until 2027 on 15 October.

Clement takes over a Rangers side who are already seven points adrift of rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table, meaning he already faces a tall order to wrest the title back to the blue half of Glasgow.

Upon his arrival at Ibrox, the Belgian will have already had a tough and huge to-do list and securing the future of one of the Gers’ biggest talents in McCausland was certainly one of them.

The 20-year-old winger has shown plenty of talent in his brief cameos so far this season and looks more than capable of being an integral figure to the Light Blues in the future and for the remainder of this season.

The Rangers attack have been guilty on several occasions this season of a lack of invention and imagination in the final third and the club needed to utilise fresh impetus from their academy to bring life into it again.

McCausland and Zak Lovelace have done just that in recent weeks pointing already to a bright new era under their new boss.

More crucially, it remains to be seen whether the Belgian will be given the funds to improve the squad during the winter window.

According to Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack on 14 October, there is already a requirement for Clement to utilise the club’s academy should the worst happen in the January transfer window.

Nonetheless, this terrific move to secure McCausland’s future at the club already highlights the emphasis Rangers are putting on their incredibly gifted prospects.

In other Rangers news, one inconsistent Ibrox defender must improve under Clement all be shown the Auchenhowie exit door in January.
