Peter Martin sticks it to Scottish Sun journalist over Rangers story, 'you heard it here first'

Peter Martin has stuck it to Andy Devlin after he had claimed that Kevin Muscat would be the new Rangers manager before Philippe Clement was eventually appointed.

Speaking on the PLZ Soccer YouTube channel on Monday (16 October, 01:12), the presenter called out the Scottish Sun journalist after he suggested the Australian was the favourite for the Gers top job on 12 October.

Martin responded to Devlin’s claims that his sources were, in fact, telling him Clement was going to be appointed as the new Light Blues boss, which proved to be true when the news was announced that the Belgian had replaced Michael Beale on Sunday (15 October).

“As we exclusively revealed on PLZ Soccer and I had to tell Andy Devlin of the Sun, Philippe Clement will be the Rangers manager,” said Martin. “You heard it here first. You get it here, PLZ Soccer tells you.”

Twists and turns

There was a point where it was extremely difficult to predict who was going to be appointed as the new Rangers manager as the board appeared to be quite split on Clement and Muscat.

It’s quite clear that the media were also hearing various different accounts from sources as a favourite didn’t really emerge until the end of last week.

That was following a long, two-week process where the club’s hierarchy laid out the candidates and conducted meetings in London throughout the week.

It has emerged, though, that the Gers have been keeping an eye on Clement’s situation since he left Monaco earlier in the summer due to his previous work in Belgium.

That suggests he has been the favourite amongst some of the board members for a period of time and they will be delighted to have their man in place as he looks to turn the Light Blues’ fortunes around this season.

In other Rangers news, the club are looking to appoint a “starfinder” to spearhead their recruitment
